Friday 12:00 PM- 2:30 PM:

Today was the last day of our first week in Senior Project. Hunter and I met with Diane at Ragged Mountain at 12:00 PM. Our first patient, which was scheduled to come at 12:30 called and canceled but lucky for us we only waited a little while since the next patient arrived a little early. This patient was also coming in for the first time for an evaluation. She was experiencing pain on the right side of her hip and described it as a shooting pain down to her knee. She would only experience it while she was lying down, and it would feel better when she walked around. This led Diane to believe that it could be something wrong with her IT band. To prove her hypothesis Diane had the patient do a couple of exercises that would support her hypothesis. We observed the evaluation and also had a chance to understand what Diane was talking about by feeling the tightness in the IT band as well as in her back. It was really interesting to see how Diane took the information that the patient was giving her and use it to come up with a diagnosis. Diane concluded that the IT band could be so tight that it causes the bursa that is located under the band to become inflamed and tender which explains the pain in her left leg and hip. After the evaluation Diane put some stimulation around the inflamed bursa to hopefully remove some swelling. Our next patient had come in earlier in the week so we were already familiar with her injury and she did some exercising on the bike, some strength exercises laying down, and finished off with some Stimulation to remove swelling in the knee. After she was done Hunter, Diane, and I got together and filled out or weekly time sheet to make sure everything was set and ready. We briefly spoke about what we’ll be doing next week and specifically next Saturday where we’ll be going to see the repair of an Anterior Crucaute Ligament (ACL) performed on a cadaver. Both Hunter and I were really excited for this and we cannot wait for next week to come!
